Das Rennen von Rainhill 1829 – with Rocket

 

Lokomotivrennen der Liverpool Manchester Railway 1829

Heute am 6. Oktober 1829 begann das Lokomotivrennen von Rainhill, das zur Ermittlung einer geeigneten Lokomotive für die Liverpool und Manchester Railway ausgeschrieben wurde. Die Stephensons bauten die Rocket für die Teilnahme am Lokomotivrennen und gewannen dieses auch, denn die Rocket war die einzige der fünf teilnehmenden Lokomotiven, die sowohl die geforderte Mindestgeschwindigkeit erreichte als auch während der ganzen Versuchszeit keinen technischen Defekt erlitt.

Short trip to Pilsum – Ostfriesland

The Old Brewery (Alte Brauerei) is a historic pub&restaurant in Pilsum.

Pilsum is a small village (Runddorf) with narrow streets  and a lot of history.

The village lies on an artificially laid-out cast. To this day, it can be seen that the village (Warftendorf) once was located at a sea cove. In the centre of the village is the 12th century cross-church consecrated to Saint Stephen. It is characterized by the fact that the tower – resting on crossing pillars – stands in the middle of the church. This design suggests Norman’s influence.

Valentin Ulrich Grotian built 1694 an organ that is still largely original.

The baptismal pool poured 1469 by Hinrich Klinghe is a special treasure.
